# Home locations

The home location of a vehicle is the geographic area where the vehicle is stationed when not in use by a user. All reservations need to be ended within the geographic boundaries of the home location. 

A home location can contain multiple vehicles. If this is the case consider enabling the home location as [mobility hub](https://handbook.themobilityfactory.coop/tmf-platform-documentation/reservering-and-using-vehicles/mobility-hubs). 

### Types of home locations

#### Fixed station

The home location is a specific spot. This type of home location is typically used if the vehicle needs to be parked in a specific parking spot.

A vehicle shared in a community group will by default get a home location of type *fixed station* on the home address of the vehicle owner.

#### Free float area

The home location is a bigger area. Typically a whole parking lot of neighborhood. The vehicle floats freely within the area. Meaning that the pick-up and drop-off location of the vehicle can be anywhere within the home location. 

### App notifications

### Access

It's possible to control the access to the home location. The platform supports hardware to control a barrier or parking garage door. The parking can be opened using a button in the app.
