# RFID cards

## Feature description

The TMF platform supports the use of RFID cards to (un)lock the vehicle so a shared vehicle can be used without the need of a smartphone during the trip.

Commonly this feature is used for car sharing in a closed group, for example employees of a company. The use of RFID cards can be used in parallel with the use of the TMF app.

An example: during office hours the vehicle is used by a company where the employees use the RFID cards to get access to the car while outside office hours the car is shared with the neighborhood through the smartphone app.

{% hint style="info" %}
The RFID card is used to (un)lock the vehicle. A reservation still has to be made through the smartphone app or the webapp to determine who has access to the vehicle at which time.
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="info" %}
The use of RFID cards to (un)lock the vehicle only works when the in-car hardware is connected to a cellular network and there is internet coverage.
{% endhint %}

##

## How to use the RFID card

* Link the RFID card to your Person using the Control Center (see [#setup-in-control-center](#setup-in-control-center "mention"))
* Create a reservation using the smartphone app or the web-app
* When the reservation is about to start go to the vehicle
* Hold the card once before the reader. The vehicle should unlock and the reservation is started by the platform. The green led light on the reader should turn on.
* You can now use the vehicle.
* Hold the card before the reader once to (un)lock the vehicle.
* If the vehicle is in its predefined home location and the card is used to lock the vehicle the green led light on the reader will start flashing.
* Holding the the card before the reader a second time within 20 seconds while the green led light is flashing will end the reservation.
* If the reservation has been ended and there is no other reservation from another user yet the user will be able to (un)lock the central lock of the vehicle in case they forgot something in the vehicle, but the immobilizer of the vehicle will **not be turned off.**

{% hint style="info" %}
If an error occurred while processing the reading of the RFID card or the user is not allowed access to the vehicle the red led light on the reader will flash for 5 seconds.
{% endhint %}

## Hardware

In order to use RFID cards the Invers multi card reader has to be installed in the vehicle and connected to the cloudboxx. The card reader is placed behind the windshield of the car.

The RFID card reader reads the Hitag Format and the ISO 14443 Formate (Mifare). Find below a detailed list of supported card formats:

* hitag\_1
* iso14443a\_mifare
* legic
* iso14443a\_4
* iso14443b\_4
* felica
* iso15693
* hid\_prox // does not have uid
* hid\_iclass
* awid
* indala
* iso14443b\_prime
* em\_410x // only supported with card reader firmware > 1.71

## Setup in Control Center

A RFID card has to be linked to a certain person on the platform. RFID cards are therefor personal. An RFID card can be added to a person by going to the person in the Control Center and choosing *RFID cards from the left*.

Adding a RFID card takes two parameters. The UID (unique ID) of the card and a description. The description is a free text field that can be used to your organisations' liking. For example, if you label the RFID cards with a certain number, you can enter this label number here.

The **UID of the card has to be entered in a specific format**. If you are just starting out with the use of the RFID card system you can get in touch with TMF support to assist you. The specific format depends on what type of RFID card or tag you use.

## Common helpdesk scenarios

#### Accidentally ending reservation

If the user accidentally badges twice within 20 seconds while the green led light is flashing the reservation is started and immediately ended again. The user won't have access to the vehicle anymore because there is no pending reservation anymore.

The user should only badge twice or wait until the led lights stop flashing. The helpdesk should instruct the user to create a new reservation with the smartphone app or create a reservation for the user in via Control Center.
